Lyme Disease, The Great Imitator

Symptoms blur into autoimmune, hormonal, neurological, musculoskeletal, digestive, or inflammatory conditions — leaving many patients unheard, misdiagnosed, or told
“everything looks normal.”
While early Lyme may respond to short antibiotic courses, many patients develop persistent symptoms that require deeper investigation.
Common Persistent Lyme Symptoms Include:
Debilitating fatigue
Joint and muscle pain
Brain fog and memory issues
Sleep disruption
Anxiety, mood changes
Digestive issues
Temperature dysregulation
Persistent inflammation
Autoimmunity
Migrating pain
Sensitivity to light

How We Treat Lyme

We assess the full ecosystem driving your symptoms and build a treatment path tailored to how Lyme is showing up in your body.

We Evaluate:

  • Lyme and tick-borne co-infections (Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma, and more)
  • Immune function and chronic inflammation
  • Gut microbiome imbalance
  • Detoxification pathways
  • Hormonal and thyroid imbalances
  • Nutrient deficiencies
  • Environmental triggers (mold, heavy metals, toxins)
  • Limbic and vagal activation
  • Biofilms and latency
How It Works

Get Started on Your Targeted Lyme Treatment Plan

01

Advanced Diagnostics & Root-Cause Discovery

We use functional and specialty labs to identify:

  • Hidden infections
  • Immune dysregulation
  • Co-infections
  • Mitochondrial dysfunction
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Toxic load
  • Gut and microbiome imbalances

This ensures we are not guessing — but treating with precision.

02

Personalized, Multifaceted Treatment Plans

Your protocol may include:

  • Herbal and, or pharmaceutical antimicrobials
  • Targeted supplements for immune and cellular repair
  • IV therapy
  • Mitochondrial and energy support
  • Gut healing protocols
  • Detoxification support
  • Hormonal and adrenal balancing
  • Anti-inflammatory nutrition plans

Every plan is tailored to the severity of symptoms, presence of co-infections, and your body’s ability to tolerate treatment.

03

Immune, Mitochondrial & Detox Support

Chronic Lyme often disrupts your immune and energy systems. We strengthen your body’s resilience with:

  • Immune-modulating therapies
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • Mitochondrial repair protocols
  • Liver + lymphatic detox support
  • Nervous system calming strategy

This helps reduce flare-ups and speeds up recovery.

04

Long-Term Healing & Maintenance

Lyme recovery is not linear. We provide continuous adjustments, monitoring, and guidance to ensure:

  • Fewer flare-ups
  • Improved energy
  • Clearer cognition
  • Lower inflammation
  • Restored balance and quality of life

Our goal is lasting strength and stability, not temporary symptom relief.

Real People. Real Healing

S. O.
"The care and treatment I have received from Indigo Integrative Health Clinic has, without exaggeration, saved my life. I had been suffering for over 3 years with serious symptoms [...].The medical industry gave up on me. Indigo gave me accurate and thorough testing and was able to diagnose me quickly. I was put on an effective treatment plan that showed me improvements in my health quicker than I thought possible."
Marta S.
"Indigo didn’t just treat my Lyme. They helped me rebuild from the inside out. My body is now stronger and more grounded than ever before. Yes, it’s an investment. But it was the only path to root-level healing. It was scary to move away from conventional medicine, but this approach—holistic, evidence-informed, human—was what I needed to truly heal. I’m now able to live my life to the fullest."
Stephanie H.
"No doctor that I've been to with any of my symptoms, even talked about Lyme.. Dr. Sharkar understood it inside and out and answered every question I had—about long-term outcomes, healing timelines, and everything in between. I feel like I have my life back!"

Is Indigo Right for You?

If you’ve been searching for real answers and a treatment approach that finally makes sense, you’re in the right place. Our Lyme program is built for patients who want clarity, support, and a true root-cause approach to healing.

We can help if you:

  • Have persistent Lyme symptoms - Fatigue, pain, brain fog, or inflammation continue long after treatment — and you know something deeper is going on.
  • Suspect co-infections - Your symptoms don’t match Lyme alone, and you need a team experienced with Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia, and more.
  • Have tried antibiotics without lasting relief - You’ve followed standard treatment, but symptoms keep returning — and you’re ready for a more complete approach.
  • Feel dismissed or misunderstood – You’ve been told “everything looks normal,” yet you still don’t feel well — and want practitioners who truly listen.
  • Want a comprehensive, whole-body approach – You want answers that look beyond infection into immunity, hormones, detox, and gut health.
  • Desire a long-term plan, not a quick fix – You’re seeking sustainable, guided healing — not temporary relief that fades once treatment ends.
Before I became a practitioner, I was a Lyme patient. I know the exhaustion that never lifts, the brain fog that steals your focus, and the hopelessness when no treatment seems to work.  Looking at the root causes rather than just the symptoms — I began to heal. That journey changed my life, and it’s why I founded Indigo Health Clinic: to give others the care and solutions I wish I’d had sooner.

Commonly Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

If you’re living with Lyme or other chronic conditions, you probably have questions about how we work, what to expect, and whether this approach is right for you. We’ve put together the most common ones here.

  • Why do my Lyme symptoms continue even after antibiotics?

Lyme can trigger ongoing immune activation, inflammation, and nervous system disruption even after antibiotics. In some cases, co-infections, metabolic strain, or impaired detox pathways continue to drive symptoms. Our approach looks beyond infection alone to address the full physiologic picture.

  • How do you diagnose Lyme and co-infections?

Diagnosis is based on a combination of clinical history, symptoms, and targeted lab testing. We assess for Lyme and common co-infections, while also evaluating immune, metabolic, and inflammatory markers that influence recovery.

  • Can Lyme tests be negative even if symptoms continue?

Yes. Standard tests may miss past exposure, low-level infection, or immune dysregulation. A negative test does not always rule out Lyme-related illness, which is why clinical context and provider Lyme literacy matter.

  • What does Lyme treatment at Indigo typically include?

Treatment is individualized and may include herbal and/or pharmaceutical antimicrobials, immune and metabolic support, IV therapies, detoxification strategies, and targeted lifestyle interventions. Plans are adjusted over time based on response.

  • Do you use antibiotics, herbal therapies, or both?

Depending on the case, we may use antibiotics, botanical antimicrobials, or a combination. In more complex or neurologic presentations, care may require a more robust and carefully monitored approach. Treatment decisions are guided by symptoms, tolerance, prior treatment history, and overall health, and are adjusted over time based on response.

  • How long does Lyme treatment usually take?

There is no fixed timeline. Some patients notice improvement within months, while others require longer-term, staged care. Treatment often begins with an initial phase of approximately 6–12 weeks, followed by a maintenance or stabilization phase that can last longer. Care is reassessed regularly to ensure it remains appropriate and effective.

  • Can symptoms flare before they improve?

Yes. As treatment begins, some patients may experience temporary symptom flares as the immune system responds, sometimes referred to as a Herxheimer-type reaction. Our protocols are designed to help mitigate these effects, and we monitor closely and adjust care to support tolerance and safety.

  • How often is treatment reassessed?

Treatment is reviewed at regular follow-up visits. Adjustments are made based on symptoms, lab trends, and overall progress.

  • Do you treat patients with complex or neurological Lyme?

Yes. We routinely work with patients who have neurological symptoms, long-standing illness, or multiple co-infections. In some cases, Lyme-related processes can affect the brain and nervous system, which requires a more thoughtful and closely monitored treatment approach. Care is tailored carefully and adjusted over time to support both neurological and overall recovery.

  • What if I’ve already tried multiple treatments without success?

Many of our patients come to us after trying other approaches. We focus on identifying what may have been missed, such as co-infections, metabolic barriers, or immune dysfunction, and tailoring care accordingly.

  • Do you coordinate with other providers?

Yes. We often collaborate with other physicians and specialists to ensure care is aligned and comprehensive.

  • Is Lyme treatment covered by insurance?

Indigo is an out-of-network, self-pay practice and does not bill insurance. We do not provide insurance billing, codes, or documentation for services other than office visits, physical exams and our lab draws. Third-party labs, IV therapies, medications, and other treatments are self-pay, and receipts are provided for your records.
