Lyme Disease Is in Rock Creek Park, Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC. All Are on the CDC's High-Incidence List
The CDC classifies Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia as high-incidence areas for Lyme. Standard two-tier blood testing catches only 22 to 36 percent of early infections, so a negative result does not rule Lyme out when symptoms are present. Free state and county programs identify a tick's species but do not test it for disease, and broader co-infection testing is not routinely ordered.

Alpha Gal - The Tick Bite That Is Making Meat Dangerous
A tick bites you on a trail in McLean or a golf course in Middleburg, and you barely notice. Six weeks later you are waking at 2 a.m. with hives, stomach cramps, or a racing heart, a few hours after dinner and for no reason anyone can explain. Every test your doctor runs comes back normal. You are told it is IBS, perimenopause, or stress, or handed the word idiopathic, which in plain terms means no one knows.

Neurological Lyme Disease: The Symptoms a Normal Workup Can Miss
A normal brain MRI helps rule out causes like a tumor or a stroke. It cannot rule out neurological Lyme disease. Lyme inflames the nervous system in a way a standard scan is not built to see. A clean MRI can send someone back to years of specialists who keep finding nothing.

Still Sick After Multiple Rounds of Lyme Antibiotics? Your Treatment May Be Incomplete.
The two-to-four week course of doxycycline most doctors prescribe was built for early Lyme, caught within days of a tick bite. It was not built for what Lyme becomes after months or years in the body. By then the infection behaves differently. It can involve bacteria that tolerate standard antibiotics. It can involve an immune system knocked off balance.

Your Lyme Test Came Back Negative. That Doesn't Mean You're Fine.
A negative Lyme test does not rule out Lyme disease. Standard two-tier testing detected only 22 to 36 percent of early infections in a 2025 study, misses co-infections entirely, and can stay negative after early antibiotics. If symptoms persist, a negative result is a reason to look wider, not to stop.

Could Your Fibromyalgia, MS, or CFS Actually Be Lyme?
Lyme disease shares key symptoms with fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and chronic fatigue syndrome, so it can be mistaken for any of them. It is also over-diagnosed in people who do have one of those conditions. The honest answer is that Lyme is worth confirming or ruling out with a knowledgeable clinician, not assumed in either direction.

Babesia: The Lyme Co-Infection Your Treatment May Have Missed
Babesia is a malaria-like parasite carried by the same tick that carries Lyme. Because it is a parasite and not a bacterium, the antibiotics typically used for Lyme have no effect on it. It is seldom tested for, so people can finish Lyme treatment, still feel sick, and not understand why.

Why "I Feel Fine" Is the Wrong Way to Decide About Lyme Treatment
Most people who get a Lyme diagnosis at our clinic do not feel like they are in danger. They came in tired, or foggy, or carrying joint pain that no one had explained, and the diagnosis was almost a relief. Then comes a harder moment. The symptoms are real but manageable, the treatment is an investment, and a quiet voice starts negotiating. Maybe it can wait. Maybe it is not that serious.

Scientists Engineered Mice to Block Lyme. What It Means if You Already Have It
Scientists at MIT engineered mice that fight off Lyme and pass that protection to their pups. In a 2026 study, ticks that fed on these mice picked up almost no Lyme. It is a real step toward fewer infected ticks, but it does little for anyone who already has it.

The Co-Infections a Standard Lyme Test Was Never Built to Find
Many people who find their way to us have been told their results are normal. They have also been sick for years. Both things are true.

Herxheimer Reaction in Lyme Disease: Feeling Worse Before You Feel Better Is Not a Sign That Treatment Is Failing
What a Herxheimer reaction — or “herxing” — actually is, why it happens in Lyme and co-infection treatment, and what it means as you move through treatment.
